Bell tent camping Battisborough House, South Devon

Bell Tent camping is set in a stunning location designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, directly overlooking the sea.

The house was built in 1898 for the Fox family, Plymouth business owners who farmed at South Battisborough Farm before the land was amalgamated into the adjoining Flete Estate. For several years from the 1950’s, Battisborough House was run as a boarding school closely modelled on the famous Scottish school, Gordonstoun. In 1987 it became a residential centre set up and managed by Hall Grove School in Surrey.

Our campsite lies within six acres of private gardens on a broad terrace commanding exceptionally fine sea views. Within an attractive sheltered woodland there is a communal fire pit. Logs are available for purchase on site. There is access via a private right of way to the coastal path, to Mothecombe Beach and to several isolated coves. South Battisborough Farm, the home of the celebrated Surfing Cow Ice Cream, is just a short walk away. Visitors to the farm are most welcome and can enjoy a delicious ice cream (made on the farm from milk from its own cows) seated at a picnic table overlooking the sea.

Guests are reminded that the surrounding fields belong to a working farm; care must always be taken to follow all aspects of the Country Code and to show consideration and respect to the neighbours.

Battisborough camping is within a quite exceptional setting providing our campers with privileged access to one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the country. Guests will not be disappointed.
